MBA Essentials: Managing Across Cultures
This Segment in the program provides an understanding of the process of cross-cultural management and the challenges that leaders face while working internationally. Previously, cross-cultural competence was required of only the few executives in the international divisions of firms. These executives need to be able to manage effectively across cultures – either on international assignments or in cross-cultural teams. Today, with increasing business globalization, employees of all levels often work and interact with people from different nations and cultures. Over 80% of midsize and large companies send their professionals overseas and 45% of the companies plan to increase this number. Managers are also discovering that moving up corporate ladders requires successful overseas assignments. Yet, even excellent American executives may falter in overseas assignments if they lack cross-cultural management skills. Effective training and exposure to cultural differences around the world can help people learn to successfully manage the ever culturally diversified workforce domestically and overseas.
